Lately I’ve been living a dream that came true. I commute to work by boat. Yesterday was the ultimate, as I managed to row to work and then sail home. It’s great to be excited about going to work, even it’s just about the commute! on the way in and on the way home

but I do know these are challenging times for Cameron and his team. He’s been preparing for this moment for 8 years. He’s been methodical, thinking through all the pieces, running tests, developing tools and materials to help him dive to the bottom of the trench. Now everything is ready and in place for the [...]

Tinef, my Chester Yawl that sails, is now a left-coaster, but she grew up in the East and had a good life while we were back there. She was built in my garage in Princeton, launched on Carnegie Lake, and then towed behind my truck to a couple cool sailing spots before making the trek [...]

In 1971 my father and uncle sailed together in the Snipe National Championships and won. A week earlier, my uncle and aunt sailed together and won the junior title. They were a bunch of stars – a real win for the family in ’71. Apparently they were invited to be on Sports Illustrated TV, but [...]

If you’ve been following the buzz on the internet about our abode (we were featured on a beautiful blog called Free Cabin Porn), then you’d surmise that Mic (dog) and I live inside a converted cargo trailer somewhere around the east coast – possibly New Jersey, Maine, or even Canada. While that’s been true in [...]

Seattle steals my heart for so many reasons. My girlfriend is the primary cause of this, but so is the beer, coffee, mountains, water, KEXP, lack of New York Hipsters… and so on and so forth. Well, there are a few hipsters – but they’re not so bad. A huge draw for me is the [...]

My cousin Max now has 9 years under his belt. Such a good number, and such a great age. Max had an awesome birthday on Greenlake in Seattle. The weather was amazing and perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, rowing, and even a little sailing. It was a special day for me since my boat was [...]

My friend Aleks, AKA “The Skilled Unlaborer” needed a hand with a little boat work the other day. Aleks does it the old-fashioned way. He’s a unique craftsman who learned to build boats from the Wooden Boat School in Brooklin, Maine. Most of the Skilled Unlaborer’s projects bare a natural ruggedness and are void of [...]

On Saturday my cousin had an awesome birthday party on Greenlake. The day doubled as an opportunity to get my boat in the water (for the first time on the West Coast). The weather was amazing and perfect for some rowing and sailing. A few extra friends even showed up just to do some “floating”.
